Government heads to enable real estate investment being granted as retirement provision
Good news for owners of family homes or flats: real estate shall be taken into consideration for the government-granted retirement provision called “Riester-Rente”. Following this the construction or purchase of an owner-used house or flat or even a cooperative ownership are aimed to be granted as retirement provision by the state. The payback of a loan shall also be considered in this “Wohn-Riester”-system.
The new regulation shall be introduced in late spring 2008 but will be retroactive from 1st of January 2008

Boomtown Berlin
Berlin is booming and its status is comparable to the cosmopolitan standards of New York, London or Paris. The real estate market in Berlin on the other hand is not comparable to other major cities. While the existing prices for residential buildings in most city centres vary around 10,000Euro / sqm or higher, in Berlin they are only 10% of this. Slowly German investors are realising the potential of the real estate market in Berlin. Berlin has a regulated rental market. However, because of the continuing high demand for inner-city property and Berlin?s international attractiveness this regulated rental market cannot be expected to keep down a strong rising in rental prices in areas that have hence been stable.

Retreat to the city
New Study: many people regret thier move to the countryside. Missing apartment-offers in the metropolis.
Along with the recovery of the German economy experts expect a raising demand for real estate in German cities. According to a report from the workshop on the future of German building and loan associations (LBS) many people prefer to live in a city instead of living in the countryside.
Especially the city of Berlin benefits from this. On an actual overview the capital is gaining ground in comparison to other German cities. There is a great demand for well refurbished flats in old buildings located in central areas. Tenants are willing to rent apartments for up to 12 EUR per sqm in exclusive inner city areas.
